1.Pre-production meeting
- The tasks we needed to complete for the pre-production were split evenly between Melissa and myself. Both of us worked hard at these tasks to ensure they would be worth a good mark. We knew this would be the part of the production that we could both excell in and made the most of it. I dont believe we could improve on the way we approached the tasks and we completed them as a team.
The pre production tasks i completed were the Location / Permission, Production Schedule, Crew & Talent , Technology and the Concept. I think i did these tasks to the best of my ability.
B.Peer Reveiw
- Melissa put in alot of effort in the pre-production tasks as she is very talented writer. The tasks she completed were the Storyboard, The treatment, Script and the Art Department.
Many of the tasks she completed were very long and detailed and i personally thought she did a very good job at all of them. I think the hard work she put into these tasks will help us alot in our final grade.
2.Production Meeting
-Our production meeting included deligating roles in our movie. We both agreed that Melissa was a better camera operater than myself, and it was also her dad's camera that we were using. We also decided that we would require more actors to play the parts in the film other then just myself.
The characters in our short movie are :
- Rosie ( Sandra Sullivan ) - Stalker / Ex Best friend
- Anna ( Lucy Harris ) - New Best Friend
- Stacey ( Ashleigh Stevenson ) - Girl in the middle
- We had to be logical when making production decisions and making sure that we wernt making it impossible for ourselves. We were both directors and made the decisions together , but when Melissa was a camera operater I was an actor. The rest of the production process we did togeher and split the work evenly.
B.Peer Reveiw
-Melissa did a fantastic job at filming! One of the best aspects was her use of shots. She worked extremley hard to use a wide range of shots and to change her angles to show the audience, the actors in different perspectives. Im very proud of the effort she put into the filming (:
3.Post Production Meeting
-Our post production was more difficult tehn the other tasks. This was due to many things interrupting our progress. Unfortunatley Melissa became sick in the middle of the editing process, but this didnt stop her from contributing 110% into all aspects of the editing process. She began making a movie at home using her own programme whilst i was still at school. As soon as i finished my classes, she came over and we finished the editing of our film together. This meant we could both put in our thoughts and ideas for our final film.
B. Peer Reveiw
-I think how Melissa was so unwell but continued to edit our movie just shows how determined she was to do a good job. She did extremley well when it came to the editing process and made many valuable contributions. I couldnt have done this without her and i think we worked extremley well as a pair (:
Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there

PRODUCTION - Technology
Camera Operation - We found using the camera easy as it was my dad's camera and I had used it a bit in the past. By taking advantage of test shots and being able to alter the camera settings we were in reach of a successful film.
Composing Shots - To enable the audience to be able to see the characters in different perspectives, we used many different angles to show the different expressions of the actors. Yet again we found this task simplistic as we had developed our skills whilst working with the camera and were able to compose effective shots.
Recording or using sound effects, dialogue or music - In our film, Mon Nouveau Bestfriend, we didn't need to use sounds effects to create a platonic atmosphere. We did use a significant amount of dialogue to help the audience understand the storyline and the relationships between the three girls. Using dialogue was also an easy task as the camera picked up the dialogue very easily. Although we were unaware at the time that the camera also picked up the excessive amount of wind during the night scenes. We manage to subside the noise by our use of editing but we were unable to override it completely. We used music to enhance the atmosphere and keep the audience in anticipation. The songs we incorporated into the movie are :
-Smile - Avril Lavinge
-If you ever come back - The Script
-Best thing i never had - Beyonce
-Sleepwalker - Adam Lambert
All four of these songs help us to convey the message in each of our scenes. We didn't find it difficult to use music in our movie and found it easy to convert the files. First of all I used a music converter and saved it as a file on my computer. We furthermore imported it onto the movie programme we was using. We found this easy as we had prior experience from movies we had made in primary school.
Importing images and video files - We used quite a few images to show the relationships between the three girls and how the friendships have changed. We downloaded the photos from facebook onto our usb, then imported them to the movie maker. This wasn't difficult and it barley took any time to complete this task. Downloading the video files was straight forward as all we had to do was plug the camera into the computer and download them. Both importing the images and video files was very simple and we felt like we did well in completing this task.
Editing images for moving image production -
This part of the post production was the most time consuming but also our most effective. The editing phase took a lot of time, but the effort that was put into it created a great film. We used transitions to have a smooth run through from scene to scene.
-The keyhole - We chose to use this transition to show Rosie (the stalker) arriving home after her eventful evening when she overheard her ex best friend betraying her.
-The eyeball - Represents Rosie's eye , as she is stalking the two new friends from behind a bush. This is showing the audience Rosie's perspective of the situation as it is from her view.
-Zigzagged opening- We chose this to represent Rosie and Staceys' friendship parting. This use of editing shows how the protagonist, Rosie, is feeling in the current situation and how every second of the movie she is further and further away from where she used to be with Stacey. It is as if they are both being pulled in different directions.
We also used an editing programme to lighten the scenes that were filmed at night. Although the scenes are still quite dark, we were able to clearly see the significant impact it had on this part of the film.
These are only a few of the techniques we used throughout our film, but they are the most significant examples of editing that help enhance our storyline.
Editing sound for moving image production - We chose songs that we thought would create an atmosphere for our film and not draw away the impact we were trying to portray. The only time consuming part about this task was editing the songs to fit the images. We didn't want the song to interrupt the scene or overlap onto another shot. Therefore editing the song to the exact length and to have to right impact on each scene was difficult, but we managed and we personally think we did a very good job (:

PRODUCTION - Location / Permissions
We filmed at these locations :
Westlake Reserve
- This tranquil area provided a peaceful and scerene atmosphere to film our scene.
It was a beautiful lake surrounded by nature at its best.
The Quarry Hill
-The hill looks over Christchurch's city lights. This provides a beautiful scenery after a great night out for dinner. Being at night , it allows the stalker to follow them without being recognised and helps enhance the current scenario.
Sandra's House
- This lovely property is located in Burnside. With permission from Bob Booreboom and P.J Sullivan (Sandra's Parents) we were able to film at this location.

Why did Rosie text you saying, "I miss you"... with an "x"?
Stacey - "Aw, did she? Did she really? Aw, I mean... yuck! Why would she be texting me?"
